Cosmology and mythology from the Far East to South America told of a giant turtle swimming in the space of the universe on which stood four elephants that carried the disc of the world. This speaks to the longing for epic stories from which to create building blocks of meaning, a mythological map that holds the tension between the familiar and the unknown.
